Summer Dreaming

Beneath the stars we run and hide,
Taking what we dream’d to try
To save from boredom.
Fell to your feet and took off the pride
To hang and fuss with me in thy
Daring so seldom.

We’d sing this summer serenade
Year after year on the same date
As granted for me.
The past is done; we’ve been betrayed
While youth flying when we still wait
To remain what to be.

To the summer stars you belong
And the nights and flies and the eglantine;
Out of which we now have gone.
The summer dreaming is to be alfine.
